Apply Now – University of Michigan African Presidential Scholars (UMAPS) Fellowship 2026-2027

The University of Michigan African Presidential Scholars (UMAPS) Program is now accepting applications for the 2026-2027 cohort until October 15, 2025.
UMAPS hosts two 5-month cohorts each year (August–December and January–May) at the University of Michigan, providing early-career African faculty with opportunities for research, writing, and collaboration with U-M scholars.
Eligible applicants must:
– Be early-career faculty teaching at a recognized university/college in Africa for less than 10 years
– Hold an ongoing appointment and provide a letter of support from their home institution
– Be able to remain in residence for five months
Applications are open directly to faculty from Benin, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, and Uganda. Faculty from other African countries may apply only with nomination from a U-M faculty member.
