Assessment and Initial Treatment of Snakebite for Healthcare Workers (Online Course)

Assessment and Initial Treatment of Snakebite for Healthcare Workers (Online Course)

The Nigerian Infectious Diseases Society (NIDS) is offering an online training programme on Assessment and Initial Treatment of Snakebite for Healthcare Workers.

This training is designed to equip healthcare professionals with the essential knowledge and clinical skills required to assess and manage snakebite cases effectively, particularly in regions where snakebite envenoming remains a significant public health challenge.

Snakebite envenoming is a serious health problem in many tropical countries, including Nigeria, where access to treatment and trained healthcare providers remains limited. Studies have shown that many health facilities face challenges in managing snakebite cases due to limited training and access to antivenom treatment.

Course Highlights

  • Clinical assessment of snakebite victims

  • Identification of symptoms and complications

  • Initial emergency management procedures

  • Proper referral and treatment protocols

  • Practical guidance for frontline healthcare workers

The course aims to improve the capacity of healthcare workers to respond quickly and appropriately to snakebite emergencies, helping to reduce complications and mortality.

Snakebite management requires prompt medical attention and the use of effective antivenom therapy, which is currently the only proven treatment for venomous snakebite envenoming.
