Ahmadu Bello University NFELTP 2026 – MPH in Field Epidemiology, Veterinary Epidemiology & Laboratory Epidemiology
Ahmadu Bello University in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, and Federal Ministry of Environment has announced the 2026 Nigeria Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program (NFELTP).
The NFELTP is a two-year in-service training programme designed to build capacity in field epidemiology, veterinary epidemiology, and laboratory epidemiology and management. The programme prepares professionals for leadership roles in public health systems at federal, state, and local government levels.
The programme operates with funding and technical support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Participants will support epidemiological services and disease surveillance through field placements with public health and agricultural institutions.
Programme Objectives

Strengthen capacity to respond to outbreaks, epidemics, and public health emergencies

Improve public health, environmental, and veterinary surveillance systems
-
Strengthen laboratory participation in surveillance and investigations
-
Improve collaboration between public health and veterinary epidemiology
-
Conduct research on priority public health problems

Strengthen communication and networking on public health issues
Eligibility
Field Epidemiology / Public Health Candidates
Applicants must have:
-
MBBS / MBChB / BDS with registration from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria

Minimum two years working experience in a government position
-
Recommendation from the Head of Department / Ministry / Agency
-
Credits in five O’level subjects including English and Mathematics
Experience in disease control or epidemiology units at LGA, state, or federal levels is an added advantage.
Laboratory Epidemiology and Management
Applicants must have:

BSc degree (minimum Second Class Upper) in Microbiology or related field

Minimum two years experience in a government laboratory
-
Recommendation from the relevant Ministry or Department
-
Credits in five O’level subjects including English and Mathematics
Registration with relevant professional councils is an advantage.
Veterinary Epidemiology Candidates
Applicants must have:

DVM degree with certification from the Veterinary Council of Nigeria

Minimum two years working experience in the Ministry of Livestock Development or related institutions
-
Recommendation from the serving Ministry or Department
Experience in disease control programmes will be an advantage.
Acceptability Requirement
Successful candidates must sign a commitment to remain in government service for at least five years after graduation.
