Research Fellow (Population Health) — London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM)
The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) invites applications for a Research Fellow position within the Population Studies Group, Department of Population Health, Faculty of Epidemiology and Population Health.
The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary research team providing technical support to the Nigeria Institute of Medical Research (NIMR). The role focuses on evaluating the population-level impact of large-scale azithromycin provision on child mortality in Nigeria. The position requires strong quantitative or data science skills and practical experience in survey or population-based data collection, particularly in settings with weak civil registration and vital statistics systems.
This is a full-time, fixed-term position based in London, with regular travel to Nigeria for collaboration and field engagement.
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct high-quality research and contribute to peer-reviewed publications

Support population-level data collection and quality monitoring

Analyze demographic and health datasets, including child mortality estimation

Provide technical support to NIMR research activities

Contribute to teaching, supervision, and academic citizenship activities

Participate in professional development and institutional responsibilities
Essential Requirements:

Postgraduate degree (preferably a PhD) in Demography, Epidemiology, Data Science, or a related field

Experience with demographic or health data collection and management

Strong skills in statistical analysis and data management tools

Evidence of academic writing and research outputs

Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Excellent communication and organizational skills

Willingness to travel to Nigeria for research collaboration
Desirable Experience:

Experience with large survey datasets and demographic estimation

Prior work experience in Nigeria or similar settings

Experience contributing to research grant applications

Teaching or supervision experience
Salary & Contract:
-
Grade 6 position
-
Salary range: £45,728 – £51,872 per annum (inclusive of London weighting)

Full-time (35 hours per week)

Fixed term until 31 December 2026, with possibility of extension subject to funding
